Is acupuncture painful?

Acupuncture is generally not painful, as the needles used are as thin as a strand of hair. Most patients report feeling little to no discomfort during insertion. Once the needles are in place, patients often feel a sense of relaxation and may even fall asleep.

How long does an acupuncture treatment last?

Initial treatments may be longer to allow time to get acquainted with the patient and their condition, typically taking around 45 minutes. Follow-up treatments usually last between 20-30 minutes.

How many acupuncture treatments do I need?

Acupuncture results are cumulative and a series of treatments is usually recommended for lasting relief. While most patients feel relief after their first treatment, the number of treatments needed can vary depending on the severity and duration of the condition. A general guideline is one month of treatment for every year of the condition.

Do you accept insurance?

We do not currently accept insurance, but we can provide a super bill for patients to submit to their insurance company for possible reimbursement. We do accept payment from Flex Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA).

Do I need to undress for an acupuncture treatment?

No, our styles of acupuncture use areas of the body where patients do not need to undress. Common areas used are the knees, elbows, ears, and back. Loose clothing is recommended to ensure access to these areas.

How should I prepare for an acupuncture treatment?

To prepare for an acupuncture treatment, patients should complete any necessary paperwork ahead of time and wear comfortable, loose clothing. Eating a small meal before treatment is preferred and avoiding caffeine prior to treatment is recommended.
